What Is My Dog Trying To Tell Me?

There are a lot of different barks: high pitch, low pitch, intermittent, whiney barks etc.

Before you tell your dog to stop barking, I really want you to listen and identify the differences in your dog’s barking.

Recently I have been working with folks, who tell me, that their dog is in the backyard and barking incessantly. In the same conversation they tell me, that their dog is also digging holes in their backyard.

Our dogs use their barks, whines and other vocalization to communicate with us. I don’t think it’s fair to punish a dog for barking. Don’t get me wrong, I am the first one to punish any excessive barking from any dog. I just want you to ask yourself first, what it is, that your dog is trying to communicate to you and are you being fair in how you respond.

If your dog is in the backyard and he is at the door, barking to be let inside, maybe you should bring him inside and teach him how to be calm. Better yet, calm your dog, before you bring him inside.
