What to do, when your dog refuses to go out in the rain to go potty? With all the rain we have had these last few weeks, it’s a question that has come up several times. You would think, that a dog will go, when necessary, but holding it for hours, just because it’s raining makes little sense to us.
Since it’s still very warm outside, why not turn on the sprinklers, get your leash and run around the sprinklers with your dog. Initially, you could just lead your dog on the outside of the sprinkler on a low setting and then gradually start playing with your dog. When people tell me, their dog will not want to go out in the rain to play, it’s most likely because they, the people, are standing under a covered patio. I am a big believer in joining your dog. If you show them that you are willing to be out there with them, when it’s raining, it will be easier to convince them. Lead the way and your dog will be less reluctant.
