Jumps and recalls

A few days ago I was working with Preston and his dog ranger. They have done a very nice job and Ranger continues to make strides in his recalls. On this particular session I wanted Ranger to handle a new challenge, a low hurdle. What you don’t see in the video is us simply walking ranger over the hurdle and encouraging him. We did about 20 of these before we started with what you see on the video.
The first time you see Ranger in the video, he misjudges the jump and hits the top pretty hard. When he did this, I had a pretty good feeling that he would want to go around. He did want to go around. However we helped guide Ranger over the jump. After that, he progressively performed better.
